Shopping & Services
Our beautiful and vibrant downtown hosts an eclectic mixture of shops, boutiques, salons, and retail stores for your “not so everyday” shopping needs. There are several restaurants, bakeries, antique shops, drug stores and more. Downtown also functions as the business center of the community, featuring a healthy variety of financial, accounting, real estate, legal, health and dental care, and other professional services. For a truly one-of-a-kind living experience, try leasing one of our downtown lofts.
In 2009, Augusta was recognized by Kansas MainStreet for “Excellence in Planning in Public Spaces” for the downtown streetscape project executed in 2008 and 2009. The City and State invested over $1.5 million replacing sidewalks, curb and gutter, utilities, and street lighting along a five block stretch of the city’s core. Now complete, our beautifully landscaped streetscape offers the perfect complement to the attractive facades of our historic downtown buildings.
Augusta’s downtown features two buildings on the National Register of Historic Places: the C.N. James Log Cabin and the Augusta Historic Theatre. Built in the 1930s in the art deco style and now fully restored, the Augusta Historic Theatre is the architectural and cultural centerpiece of the community and the downtown. The theatre is a popular tourist attraction, drawing thousands of visitors each year from across the country.
